Advocacy Seminars
Passing Legislation Powerfully in Massachusetts
With more than 12,000 bills submitted for each two-year legislative session in Massachusetts, it cannot be easy to gain the attention of legislators and committees. To make a difference, you need a great team, to be highly organized, and a passion and commitment so strong that legislators know you won’t go away until you accomplish your goals. In this seminar, you will learn how to:
- Build your strategy and design deliverables to start the legislative process to transition a bill into a law
- Gain momentum, support, and coverage in the legislature, media, and across the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts
- Tips, tricks, and short cuts
- Review two case studies and discuss Erin’s Law – see the process in real-time
- Child Abuse Protection Act – Ballot Initiative
Join us to learn how to contribute to the legislative process to make Massachusetts a better place!
Innovative Prevention Models to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse
Preventing child sexual abuse has always been challenging due to socioeconomic barriers, busy schedules, and willful blindness. As concerned citizens, we need to think out of the box and create innovative solutions. During this seminar, we will review two programs that are in process:
- Erin’s Law – providing children with the tools to protect themselves from child sexual abuse and developing an environment of awareness and prevention for the community. The legislation was submitted in the 2013-2014 session and will be resubmitted for the 2015-2016 session in Massachusetts. This bill has been passed in 19 states as of August 2014. Erin’s law provides continuing professional development activities, including participation in or presenting in-service training programs on sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention. The Educational Curriculum requires age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education in grades Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and training school staff on preventing sexual abuse.
- Neighborhood Info Session & Networking – during these cozy seminars – we review existing statistics, body safety, signs to watch out for (preventative), signs to be wary of (reactive), and how to lead the way in protecting your community. We provide the basics to protect the children and advocate in the community. Ample Q&A time is scheduled for this meeting to answer your questions.
Join us to learn about new innovative solutions for community and family prevention.
Creating a World of Healing, From a World of Hurt
With 1 in 5 people in the United States experiencing sexual abuse and the average age of disclosure in a victim’s mid-40s, it’s time to create an environment of healing through broad-reaching, diverse, and flexible healing programs. Abuse is often stored in the brain’s limbic system, which has a broad impact on existing therapies; it has been shown to be limited in expedient, comprehensive healing. New protocols are under development and being tested using alternative healing methodologies. In this seminar, we review these concepts:
- Review victim profiles, trauma assessment, and treatment of sexual victimization
- Comprehensive a la carte healing solutions are being developed
- Developing Innovative Protocols
- Emerging Solutions
Join us to learn about new innovative solutions for community and individual healing.
